Fossil carbon is a net new addition to the atmosphere that lingers for millennia. Biogenic carbon moves through the short, natural cycle. Treating biomass as automatically "carbon neutral" is a useful shortcut, but it hides real information, especially the carbon stored in products sent to landfill.
