About

What is PIQET?

PIQET is a streamlined Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tool for optimising the environmental performance of packaging designs.

As an online business tool especially designed for the packaging industry, PIQET allows companies to:

  • Quantify and compare the environmental impacts and resource consumption profile of different packaging designs; in essence, how sustainable are they?
  • Continuously assess packaging and product designs from design concept to launch
  • Identify hot spots to improve sustainability throughout the supply chain
  • Compare and benchmark design options and improvements
  • Communicate environmental benefits effectively
  • Build capacity in their teams to integrate sustainability into their business decisions.

All of this information can be distilled in only 30 minutes.

The company is then armed with this critical information to go alongside: cost, structural integrity (fit for purpose) and aesthetics – the four pillars of 21st century packaging design.

You can take great comfort from knowing that PIQET is based on the ISO 14040 standards for LCA.

History

Designed to assess the environmental impact of packaging resources and processes, the Packaging Impact Quick Evaluation Tool (PIQET) was created to link technical research teams with users. The driving factor for PIQET was, and still is, to provide a streamlined approach to Life Cycle Assessments, through quick, online use.

The first online version of PIQET was completed in 2007, being launched officially in 2008. Over the past decade PIQET has provided the consumer goods industry with credible, independent and affordable access to Life Cycle information, assessing environmental impacts of packaging. What has set PIQET apart from other tools is the combination of the most relevant and reputable data and methodology, with a simple but comprehensive interface to undertaken environmental assessment.

Having been involved in the initial development, and provided technical services to the previous owners, lifecycles took over ownership of PIQET in April 2016. As specialists in Life Cycle Assessment, we are planning to take PIQET to a new level, with PIQET 4.0 due for release this November. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT PIQET 4.0 HERE.

To test the water, we can also undertake an initial PIQET assessment for you.
