New material updates - August 2023

We are excited to announce that PIQET has made significant advancements in its material development. In the near future, we will be adding new materials to the PIQET database.

Among these additions are two highly requested materials: Mycelium and Adhesive (oil based).

Mycelium

The biobased polymer Mycelium composite is a recently developed polymer produced from biomass, more specifically fungus species. Mycelium was modelled using inputs given by (Stelzer, L.,et al 2021). This reference paper used the functional unit of 1 brick of Mycelium. A reference paper,(Sàez, D., et al 2021), which analyzed fungal mycelium bricks for use in construction, was used to estimate the mass of Mycelium in 1 Mycelium brick.

Adhesive, oil-based

Adhesive, oil-based was adapted from the EcoInvent 3.9 process ‘Polyurethane adhesive{GLO} | polyurethane adhesive production | Cut-off, U’. Inputs of water and electricity were edited with regionalized PIQET inputs.
